I, too, would like to be remembered

Because a multitude before me

Left so much for us to cherish

But as for me, I have very little to offer

And my contribution will have very little impact.

But I need to anyway!

Because I was put on this earth

For a ‘special purpose’

And that special purpose is

To make some contributions, anyway!

No matter how small it may seem.

But first I need to let you know

That I admired the works of individuals like

Jesus, Gandhi, Martin, Malcolm and Nkrumah

And at times, I wish their contributions

Were my contributions.

But then, it dawned on me

That I, too, possess the creative spark

Endowed to me by the same Creator

Who created these famous individuals

And the thought of it, got me motivated

To believe that I, too, was put on earth

For a ‘special purpose’

To leave with you my contributions

No matter how little it may seem.

Therefore, I decided to leave with you

These few words

They are the teachings taught to me

By my mother and the entire village

They have brought me this far

Because I cannot be remembered

Without you knowing where I stand.

So for now, I want you to remember me

As one with a proud  heritage and background

One who believe in the original concept

Of the family, male, female relationship

The children and the extended family kinship

Around which, everything else evolves

Especially the belief that

“It Takes The Entire Village To raise A Child.”

A rich cultural tradition

One that taught us to always

Respect females and our elders in particular

To treat each other with respect and dignity

But above all, to continue to have faith

In the Almighty God

Because it is He who determines our destiny

Therefore, all that I have shared with you

Is the legacy I have to leave with you

So, remember me, anyway!
